#1 Sculpting a Child's head-teaches a method of sculpting that will help you visualize and develop your own style.  This is a 2 day workshop and requires some skill in both media and technique.  Materials fee is $15 and includes clay, 10 mm beads for eyes, foil skull and full photo instructions.  Students need to supply: a base with a hole that will fit a 1/8 to 1/2” dowel with one pointed end and a length of approximately 6-8” long; favorite sculpting tools, double pointed knitting needles any size from 4-6.   Cost $250  Seats available- 10    4

       

 

# 2 Sculpting beautiful hands-students will learn to sculpt hands using a wire armature.  Students will learn anatomy and how to sculpt hands in proportion to the head.  No more hands that are too big or too small.  Learn finishing techniques and ways to attach hands and arms to body. This is a 1 day workshop and requires some skill in both media and technique.  Materials fee $15   Cost $125

# 3 Creating a custom removable mohair wig-Have you ever been frustrated by not being able to create the exact hair style you wish for your doll?  You will learn to make a custom fit,  a realistic removable mohair wig for any type of doll -whether it is polymer, paper clay, porcelain or fabric.  This is a 1 day workshop, open to all skill levels.  Materials fee is $20.  Cost $125   Seats available- 15  8

#2 Creative Costuming- A step-by-step process to learn techniques for creating a custom costume for any doll.   Focus will be fabric and trim selection, balancing colors and learning how to design and sew a unique costume from my draping methods.  This is a 2 day workshop, open to all skill levels.  KNOWLEDGE OF USING A SEWING MACHINE IS NECESSARY TO MAKE THE MANNEQUIN.   Kit fee is $30

#3 “Hat-Rageous All Skill Levels   In this class you will learn how to measure the doll head using correct millinery proportion measurements to fit any doll no matter the size, shape or composition.   The emphases will be given to design a unique and sometimes outrageous hat to compliment your doll costume.  Other areas of focus will be on hat pattern making, design, balancing the embellishments and learning the different styles that will compliment your doll.  As a bonus you will learn how to make a hat stand.

#4 Illusions of Art Stone-Designing and creating a unique art piece that can be incorporated with doll making for bases, costumes or props.  The focus of this workshop is the proper technique for working with Paverpol--Art Stone.  Teaching design and balancing colors to maximize the best overall look and design.  This is a 1 day workshop designed for beginner to advance.  Kit fee is $25.

#2 Lady Grace- is an elegant wall hanging doll with a multi-layered head wrap about and an embellished tassel below her billowing skirt. The focus in on creating graceful expressive hands, including how to properly turn, wire, stuff and shape hands for a realistic shape and natural pose as well as creating elongated fingernails.  Facial details include detailed needle sculpting steps as well as facial drawing, coloring, and the application of eye make-up along with highlights and shadows for a face with depth.  There is a 15 page pattern full of digital drawings to guide the doll maker step by step through the creating process and to create the beaded brooch on her chest. This is a 1day class.  Students will be required to do some pre-class work.  Skill level required -- students will need to sew all body parts in advance as well as stuff the head, and body.  All other techniques will be taught in the workshop, including turning and stuffing the hands.  Class kit- $22 and includes all basic face kit, pre-class and complete directions [15 detailed pages].

#3 Camille- is an elegant Flower Fairy.   Her costume and wings are adapted from silk flower petals and is embellished with lavish beadwork and fiber while her delicate shoes are made of thin leather with beaded straps. Techniques taught in this workshop include steps to attach limbs for a natural body contour, how to shape hands realistically with graceful poses while creating individually wired fingers with delicate fingernails, to manipulate various silk flowers for an illusionary costume embellished with bead work and fibers, shape a wild hair-do using fancy yarns and fun fibers and create unique exotic pose able wings.  Facial details will be taught with a step-by-step method focusing on proportion, needle sculpting, how to shape and draw individual features, shading and highlighting, and choosing makeup colors to match her costume.  Seated, Camille is 9" in height, but alternate pattern pieces will allow the opportunity to create a wide variety of fairies seated, standing and flying, and students will learn how to adapt the body to show a doll in motion.  Additional pattern pieces will also be included for beginning doll makers to sew a simple torso and mitten hands which can also be wired and made to appear as individual fingers without "the work".  Skill level required -- students will need to sew all body parts in advance as well as stuff the head, body and legs.  All other techniques will be taught in the workshop, including turning and stuffing the hands.  Pre class sewing and stuffing will be required so no sewing machine will be needed in the classroom.   This is a 2 day workshop.  Materials fee is $22 and includes all basic face supplies, pre-class and complete patterns [20 plus pages] and use of instructor’s supplies.  Cost $250   Seats available- 15  12

 

#4 Angel Fish the Mermaid Bride-Angel Fish collects riches from ship wrecks and has embellished her wedding gown with her treasures This workshop features step-by-step methods to needle sculpt and add dimension to a cloth face with color.  Create this elegant mermaid doll to learn free form embellishing techniques including silk ribbon embroidery stitches, ribbon and fabric manipulation and incorporating beadwork as well as creating lace unique embellishments from      lace to create this beautiful doll.  Additional techniques taught in this workshop include how to pose feminine articulated hands with fingernails gracefully with the option for individual fingers or mitten hands and easy but elegant dolly rings and jewelry. Beginner options are available for a less detailed body and "mitten" hands.  Skill level required -- students will need to sew all body parts in advance as well as stuff the head, body and legs.  All other techniques will be taught in the workshop, including turning and stuffing the hands.  This is a 2 day workshop.  Materials fee is $22 and includes all basic face supplies, pre-class and complete patterns [20 + pages].  Cost $250 Seats available- 15  13

 

 

GLORIA J.”MIMI” WINER

 

 

#1 Mimi’s Modular Male, a Nude Figure in Cloth-Intermediate to advanced skills needed.  This is a 19” modular-armature male nude.  Starting with the pre-sewn body, the students will learn how to stuff smoothly, using hemostats and other useful tools.  The torso will be stuffed and the torso needle modeled.  Students will learn hot to work with wire to armature the legs so the doll can stand alone.  Legs will be stuffed, but probably not completed that day.  Day two will be entirely devoted to installing and needle-modeling the face.  The face will be stitched in place and ears stuffed, modeled and stitched in place. Day three- the legs will be armatured and stuffed.  Students will review anatomy and learn how to pose each modular body part to create the whole figure and  balance it so that it will stand alone.  Legs will be pined in place and balanced.  Arms will be armatured, stuffed and assembled according to the pose.  Students will turn and wire fingers and install separate thumbs.  Hands will be attached to the wrists.  At least one bare foot will be needle-modeled.  At least one arm and one leg will be installed.  More advanced students may get both legs posed and stitched in place.  Students are to bring-Optivisor if desired, pre-sewn body parts, [if homework is done, sewing machine will not be needed in class], hemostats, wire cutters, textile medium, needle-nose pliers, paper scissors, fabric scissors, 3x5” piece of heavy cardboard such as the back of a tracing or drawing pad or Bristol board, Grrrip Glue, Nymo white size D beading thread, a work light, if you need one and an extension cord, a pillow to make the chair more comfortable, it is permissible to bring your still camera to take photos of your figure at each step of the way for your own use,  Video taping is prohibited.  If you do not own everything on this list DO NOT run out to buy it.  Instructor will have some for class use.   This is a 3 day workshop.  Materials fee $25—and includes pattern and instructions for Mimi’s Male Nude Figure, one yard southern Belle Muslin, four special needles, 14 gauge steel wire, pipe cleaners.   Cost $375   Seats available—15   13

 

 

#2Needle Modeling a Pretty Face-Pattern, fabric and a Dream Seamer will be sent to each student one month prior to class.  Students must sew the bust/head and face at home before coming to class.  Starting with the student’s pre-stitched bust/head and face, the students will learn how to stuff form and shape into the face.  Learn how to needle-model a nose and a mouth.    Brow bone and eyelids will be modeled and stitched.  Ears will be turned, stuffed, modeled, and installed.  If time permits, the face will be colored and the eyes painted.  Hair styling and hat making will be demonstrated and discusses.  This is an intense, advanced class, but beginners are welcome because the techniques are not difficult to learn and the class is fun.  This is a 2 day class.  Materials fee-$10.00 and includes patterns for bust/head, face and picture hat, Dream Seamer tool, ½ yard Southern Belle unbleached muslin, four special sculpting needles, additional handouts will be supplied in class.  Students will bring pre-stitched bust/head and face, hemostats, 5” straight and 6” straight, thimbles, stuffing tools, small paint rushes, regular hand sewing needles, Nymo thread, size D white, air-soluble marker, notebook and pencils for note taking, long straight pins and longer quilting pins, a work light if you need one and an extension cord, a pillow to make the chair more comfortable.  It is permissible to bring your still camera and take photos of your figure at each step of the way for your own use.  Video taping is prohibited.  Cost $250   Seats Available 15  14
